Vodafone Oman and Ericsson 5G SA are testing mobile calls

Telecom operators Vodafone Oman and Ericsson have held a trial call to launch separate 5G voice and data services for Vodafone subscribers in the Sultanate.

The new voice-over-radio (voNR) proof-of-concept (POC) call over a stand-alone 5G network is part of a stand-alone (SA) network development project by both operators.

By deploying Ericsson’s dual-mode 5G core and IP multimedia subsystem technology, the POC demonstrated how the mobile network can improve voice quality.

The Vodafone network’s ability to deliver 5G-specific voice and communications services to both consumers and businesses was also demonstrated using an experimental terminal that will later be replaced by commercial terminals produced by Vodafone partners.

Unlike off-the-shelf 5G networks, stand-alone 5G networks are not based on existing 4G networks and technologies, but instead connect 5G radios to the underlying cloud 5G network, allowing flexibility and speed to meet current and future customer needs, according to Ericsson.

“These developments are important steps on the road to the future, enabling us to support the data requirements that can enable all the cutting-edge technologies, from real-time virtual reality and augmented reality to driverless cars and the latest advances in health.” care while improving quality of life on the road,” said Stelios Savvides, Chief Technology Officer, Vodafone Oman.

“Through Vision 2040, Oman is entering a new phase of growth. Mobile technology will play a huge role in this journey and with our advanced communication technologies we aim to help Oman realize the advanced digital economy mandated by Vision 2040, said Abdullah Al Balushi, Country Manager, Ericsson Oman.

ENABLE HYBRID CLOUD AND REDUCE NETWORK LATENCY

The hybrid cloud promises to bring the best of both worlds together, allowing businesses to combine the scale and cost-effectiveness of the cloud with the performance and control you can get from your on-premises infrastructure.

Minimizing WAN latency is one of the biggest performance concerns of hybrid clouds. The benefits of compression and data deduplication can reduce network latency.

Markets and Markets, a research firm, predicted that the size of the hybrid cloud market is expected to grow from $38.27 billion in 2018. USD in 2017 to 97.64 billion USD until 2023

Colocation tools provide many of the benefits of having your servers in the cloud while maintaining physical control of your systems.

The cloud proximity that colocation devices provide can allow you to leverage their low-latency, high-bandwidth connections to the cloud, as well as provide a robust connection to your on-premise enterprise network.
