Spending more time with their kids is one of the things that many parents forget. But you have to remember that quality time does not always mean that you bring your kids out of the country for a week-long vacation. Sometimes, it’s as simple as paying attention to them.
While Juliana Farris Mazurkiewicz was on her way to pick up her little girl from the childcare center at Hockley, Texas, she noticed a sign by the door. But unlike the usual announcement that the school posts, this time, it did not ask the parents to submit materials for a project or to remind parents of teaching their kids of proper manners. What the school asked this time is to change their own behavior!
Some parents were offended by the announcement, but Juliana totally agrees with what it has to say. As soon as she and her daughter arrived home, she shared a photo of the announcement on her Facebook page. What she did not expect was for her post to go viral in just a matter of days.
Through the comments, it seems like everyone has their opinion on whether it was right or wrong for the daycare facility to hang that announcement for parents to read. It started an online debate among parents. Just hours after Juliana posted this picture on Facebook, her notifications were firing up. People started sharing their own opinions and ideas regarding the message.
The memo reads: “You are picking up your child! GET OFF YOUR PHONE!!!!
Your child is happy to see you! Are you not happy to see your child?? We have seen children trying to hand their parents their work they completed and the parent is on the phone.
We have heard a child say, ‘Mommy, mommy, mommy…’ and the parent is paying more attention to their phone than their own child. It is appalling. Get off your phone!!”
During an interview with CNN, Juliana explained that she was not negatively affected by the sign in any way. In fact, she agrees with the daycare personnel’s harsh words. And the moment she read the memo, she caught herself with her phone in her hands.
She said, “I was a bit shocked, but I didn’t feel any negativity towards the daycare. I know that the staff has the best interests of the children in mind, even to the point where they are willing to offend the parent. ”
Even though Juliana felt that it was just right to remind parents of their responsibilities, some people did not find it right. There were plenty of furious commenters on her Facebook post. One of them wrote, “This is ridiculous. Who is anyone to tell a child’s parents not to use their phone? They might be working? Or have an emergency or anything else that’s none of their business.”
Each and everyone who saw Juliana’s post had their own opinion. Whether it was too harsh or not, we can all agree that as parents or guardians who are picking up their child at daycare, we should keep our electronic devices down for the time being.
These children will not stay young for long. And as parents, you should cherish every moment that was gifted to you. Never miss the chance to give the youngsters the attention that they need.
