Samsung’s SmartThings app for iPhone and iPad was updated today to add support for Matter devices. For those unfamiliar with SmartThings, it is a smart home platform that is a subsidiary of Samsung, and is similar to Apple HomeKit.

The SmartThings platform was updated with meter support in October, with Samsung rolling out meter integration in the SmartThings hub last year. With an app update, Matter-enabled smart home devices connected to the SmartThings hub can be controlled from an iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch.

Previously, SmartThings hub-connected hardware accessories could only be controlled from an Android device, but now either Apple or Android devices can be used, which is useful in multi-platform households.

Meter is a smart home standard designed to integrate with all major smart home platforms from Apple, Samsung, Google, Amazon and more. A Mater Home accessory can connect to both HomeKit and SmartThings, for example, and can be controlled by a smart home platform as long as a suitable hub is available.

The SmartThings app can be downloaded for free from the App Store. [Direct Link]
