How To Keep Keep Your Bananas Fresh For Up To Four Months

If you love to stock up on fruits at home, then there is no doubt that you always have a bunch of bananas in your grocery cart. However, once they start to ripen, there’s no other way to keep them fresh or edible than by keeping them in your refrigerator. But that won’t be of much help either.

For sure you will be surprised to know that there is a fool-proof way to keep the bananas tasting fresh for months.

This amazing trick is a must if you are fond of keeping bananas in your kitchen counter. But of course, you cannot keep it fresh as a whole fruit. You will need a bit of dicing and slicing to keep it fresh for the next four months. For you to have fresh bananas every day on your cereal, here is a tip for you.

First, you need to gather all of the things that you need:

Butter knife

Baking sheet

Parchment paper

Freezer bags

Here’s what you need to do:

First, you need to carefully choose the bananas that you want to store. You need to preserve the bananas in its best form. Don’t do this trick with bruised, mushy, and brown bananas. Choose the ones that have a bright yellow colour, ripe, and have very minimal damage. They are the best choices for this preservation technique.

The next thing to do is to start slicing them up. Peel each of the bananas and place them on your clean cutting board. Then take your butter knife and slice each piece in fourths. Make sure that you discard the hard ends.

Then you can start preserving them. Take out your cookie sheet and line it with parchment paper. Place the banana slices on top of it. Make sure that each piece has at least an inch of space between the others. Then place them in the freezer for thirty minutes. Once frozen, pack them in freezer bags.

But for other fruits and vegetables that you want to maintain its freshness, there are different techniques to preserve them. Here’s what you can do:

Avocados are a must-have for your guacamole and sandwiches. And you know that just like bananas, you cannot keep them for a long time. They are pricey superfoods and you need to prolong their shelf life. But if you cannot finish the entire fruit in one go, preserving the other half is not easy. They can go brown easy after being sliced.

So what you can do, is place the unused half in a plastic bag with a slice of onion. If you don’t have onions, you can sprinkle the avocado with a slice of lemon juice before placing it in a Ziploc bag. This can make your sliced avocado last for as long as 72 hours.

If you want to store potatoes and onions, remember not to store them in the fridge without slicing them yet. What you can do instead is place them in a wire basket in a cool, dry place in your pantry.

For your green, leafy vegetables, remember that they will not able to last for months. But here’s what you can do – remove it from its package and wrap the leaves in a paper towel. Once done, place it in a large plastic zip bag and place them in the ‘crisper’ portion of your fridge.

For sure, these easy steps can help keep your favourite fruits and vegetables last longer than they used to. With this, you can avoid them going to waste and enjoy them for a longer time instead.
