Data from the Office for National Statistics Thailand Inspired by a research team from the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn Universityto develop high–A quality dynamic prosthetic leg that is flexible and bendable and can store energy with each step. The prosthetic legs are made from carbon fiber, making them lightweight yet strong and durable. Users can walk on them over rough terrain, while exercising and jogging lightly. The innovation has achieved ISO 10328 strength standards Germany And is certified with ISO 13485 for quality. Prosthetic legs are currently in the process of being registered with Thai Innovation, requesting Made In Thailand Requesting certificates, and CE marking.
assistant. Pvt. Dr. Pairat Tangpornprasert from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, The dynamic prosthetic leg has undergone clinical trials with 20 disabled patients with very satisfactory results. It takes about 2 weeks for users to adjust to the prosthetic leg. Compared with Imported prosthetic legs are now available in the market, the innovation has comparable quality and efficiency but is 5 times cheaper than the production cost. This can help reduce the high cost of importing prostheses and orthoses. Furthermore, commercial production of medical devices can expand markets abroad, leading to additional income generation, export opportunities, and country competitiveness.
As an engineering lecturer with an interest in medical research, Asst. Pvt. Dr. Pyrat had to conduct interdisciplinary research and study, which can make it difficult to apply research when working in a single field.
“Developing a dynamic prosthetic leg, which is considered a medical device, requires the efforts of a network of doctors and prosthetists and orthotists who share their expertise and interdisciplinary knowledge to achieve good-quality dynamic prosthetic legs that meet international standards. I am proud. Good-quality Prosthetics have been successfully manufactured and have helped the disabled to regain the function of their hands,” added Asst. Payarat Prof. Dr.
was funded by the Dynamic Prosthetic Leg Project National Research Council of Thailand. It is a part of Prosthesis and Orthosis for Persons with Disabilities under the “New Beginning with Research and Innovation” commemoration of the coronation. King Rama X. 67 dynamic prosthetic legs were given to disabled people in 13 hospitals. The innovation is currently being considered for government medical benefit schemes so that it is accessible to people with disabilities, which will help improve their quality of life.
