It looks like Tesla China will unleash the power of the Shanghai Gigafactory, the largest and most efficient car manufacturing plant by volume, for the next two months. GigaShanghai is reportedly looking to increase its weekly production to nearly 20,000 cars for February and March, allowing Tesla China to handle growing demand for its cars.
Production at the Shanghai Gigafactory fell in December thanks in part to maintenance efforts that slowed car production at the end of the month. Due to the Lunar New Year celebration in China, which covered the last days of the month, the production of this center did not reach its maximum in January.
Citing a planning memo outlining car production plans for the facility and a source said to be familiar with the matter, Reuters It noted that Tesla China is looking to produce an average of approximately 20,000 vehicles per week at its Shanghai plant over the next two months. That could bring the plant up to its output level in September, when it produced 82,088 Model 3 sedans and the Model Y crossover.
According to data from the International Merchants Bank of China, Tesla China is estimated to have a 36 percent increase in average daily retail sales in the first 29 days of January compared to the same period last year. This effectively overtook arch-rival BYD, which had managed to beat China’s Tesla in recent months.
