According to IDC Tracker, smartphone shipments are experiencing the biggest drop, falling 18.3 percent in the holiday quarter and 2022. – 11.3 percent

NEEDHAM, Mass., 2023 January 25 – Global smartphone sales fell 18.3% year-over-year to 300.3 million, according to preliminary data from the International Data Corporation.IDC) Global Quarterly Cell Phone Tracker. The drop marks the largest single-quarter decline ever and contributed to a sharp 11.3% year-over-year decline. in 2022 1.21 billion ended unit shipments, which is the lowest annual number of shipments since 2013. due to significantly reduced consumer demand, inflation and economic uncertainty. This difficult year puts the near 2.8% recovery expected in 2023 at serious risk, with a significant downside risk to the forecast.

“We have never seen shipments during a festive quarter lower than the previous quarter. However, weaker demand and high inventories have forced sellers to drastically reduce shipments,” he said. Nabila Popalas, research director with IDC’s Worldwide Tracker team. “Strong sales and promotions during the quarter helped to deplete available inventory rather than spur shipment growth. Retailers are increasingly cautious about shipping and scheduling, focusing on profitability. Even Apple, which until now seemed vulnerable, has experienced supply shortages. In China, this festive quarter tells us that rising inflation and growing macroeconomic concerns continue to hold back consumer spending even more than expected, pushing back any potential recovery until late 2023.

“We continue to see consumer demand decline as renewal rates increase over the past 40 months in most major markets,” he said. Anthony ScarsellaDirector of Research at IDC Global Quarterly Cell Phone Tracker. “Because in 2022 decreased by more than 11 percent per year, in 2023 will be a year of caution as vendors review their device portfolios and channels think twice before taking on excess inventory. However, it is stated that consumers can also in 2023. even more generous trade-in offers and promotions will be available as the market comes up with new methods to encourage upgrades and sell more devices, especially high-end models.
